WELCOME TO OUR MEETINGS, EVENTS & TALKS SCHEDULE
We'd love you to join us for our regular meetings, whether you are just interested in the subject, or want to get involved in our activities on and around the Cartmel Peninsula. Non-members are welcome to attend two meetings as a taster and then join and pay £5 for the year to attend any subsequent meetings and receive newsletters. MONTHLY PEAT TALK: How to Spot "Greenwashing" - presentation followed by discussion
Methodist Church, Kents Bank Road, Grange over Sands - Greenwashing is the practice of overemphasising a company’s environmental credentials, often by misinforming the public or understating potentially harmful activities. This extends into the products that we buy and services that we might use on a daily basis. You may have already experienced this, or perhaps have been greenwashed without knowing it, either way it doesn't feel good when we discover the truth. Join us for a look at greenwashing examples with some suggested ways we can spot the signs and learn how to avoid it.

SEEDLINGS TALK: Micro-composting - Stephen Richardson has perfected a way to compost in the smallest kitchen space to provide super fast fabulous plant feed and nutrition for all growing things, which is completely chemical free and organic. Join us on Zoom to listen in to this intriguing way of making good use of kitchen scraps without the need for a compost bin and large garden.

PEAT MEMBERS MEETING & TALK - online: Permaculture with Rod Everett - Rod Everett is an ecologist and researcher in organic and permaculture systems. He runs Backsbottom farm near Lancaster where he farms organically, raising sheep and 200 heritage apple varieties. He gave an amazing talk about permaculture principles and his approach to farming organically as well as an update on his pilgrimage to Glasgow for COP26.

TWILIGHT PICNIC for the Greening Campaign- Allithwaite Community Centre, LA11 7QJ - We celebrated Great Big Green Week and our peninsula-wide success for the Greening Campaign. The Sands Band kept us entertained as we played games and enjoyed crafts with a green theme.

SEEDLINGS TALK: Annie Carr - A super inspiring speaker - Annie Carr is a professional grower who first learned her trade in the kitchen garden at Heligan, Cornwall. Annie has been described as someone who can get an astounding amount of food growing in a small space. We are delighted she is joining us for a short talk followed by questions and discussion. The talk is free and open to all.

GREENING PLANNING MEETING: Greening Cartmel Peninsula - This next meeting of the Greening Cartmel Peninsula planning team will consist of: 1. Updates on the process of getting letters out to businesses and community groups to invite them to our public meeting on May 5th. 2. The strategy for getting posters up all over the area to advertise the public meeting. Our planning meeting is open to anyone from PEAT, parish councils or community groups who’d like to be involved in rolling out the campaign.
